Fil-Canadian to boost RP Youth

-

Fil-Canadian hotshot Matthew Wright hopes to  join the Nokia RP Youth team in its campaign in the 2008 FIBA Asia junior men’s championship in Tehran, Iran in September.

Wright is a 6-foot-2 shooting guard who starred  for the Martin Grove team in the Toronto District Secondary School Athletic Association.

He had been hoping to play for a  US NCAA Division I school but was prevailed upon  by Toronto buddy Norberto Torres to join the RP youth team.

Torres led the team to their SEABA championship conquest last month. The 6-foot-7 behemoth, whose father is from Bulacan, has decided to take up college studies at La Salle.

Torres is convinced Wright will be a welcome addition to the team also looking to shore up its front court.

Through the first quarter of the year, Wright, a 16-year-old Grade 11 student, led the Martin Grove Bears in scoring, averaging 21 points a game. He topscored in 18 of their first 26 games. – Nelson Beltran
