Sarno papalit kay Diaz

MANILA, Philippines — Mayroon nang puwedeng sumalo sa maiiwang ‘legacy’ ni 2016 Olympic Games silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz.

Bumuhat ang weightlifting prodigy si Vanessa Sarno ng dalawang gold at isang silver medal sa women’s 71-kilogram division ng Asian Weightlifting Championships sa Tashkent, Uzbekistan kamakalawa ng gabi.

Nagposte ang 17-an-yos na tubong Tagbilaran City, Bohol ng 128kg sa clean and jerk at total lift na 229kg para ibulsa ang dalawang gold medals bukod pa sa silver sa snatch sa itinalang 101kg.

“Congratulations Vanessa Sarno,” sabi ng 30-anyos na si Diaz na kakampanya sa women’s 55kg class sa 2021 Olympics sa Tokyo, Japan sa Hulyo 23 hanggang Agosto 8.

Bilib rin ang coach ni Diaz na si Julius Naranjo kay Sarno, ang 2019 Asian juniors champion.

“I remember when she was just a young lifter training in a small gym in Bohol, she didn’t have proper training shoes and trained in slippers and to see her know, slowly making a name for herself on the international stage,” ani Naranjo.

Sa kasamaang pa-lad ay hindi kasama ang weight division ni Sarno sa mga events na nakalatag sa 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

Sinapawan ni Sarno si 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympian Gulnabat Kadyrova ng Turkmenistan na kinuha ang gold sa snatch (102kg), silver sa total lift (223kg) at bronze sa clean and jerk (121kg).

Nauna nang bumuhat ng tatlong silver medals si Mary Flor Diaz sa wo-men’s 45kg class at may dalawang silver at isang bronze si Elreen Ando sa women’s 64kg category ng nasabing Asian meet.
