Mga buntis bawal sa Olympics

GENEVA, Switzerland - Binigyan ng babala ng Brazil ang mga buntis na umiwas sa Olympic Games matapos magdeklara ang World Health Organization ng isang  international emergency dahil sa Zika virus, lumilikha ng mga brain-damaged babies.

Sinabi ng UN health body na ang pagtaas ng mga kaso ng microcephaly -- isang kondisyon kung saan ang isang sanggol ay nagkakaroon ng maliit na ulo at utak -- ay maaaring dulot ng mosquito-borne virus.

Idineklara ito ng WHO na isang “public health emergency of international concern.”

Anim na buwan na lamang at bubuksan na ang 2016 Olympics sa August 5 sa Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

“The risk, which I would say is serious, is for pregnant women. It is clearly not advisable for you (to travel to the Games) because you don’t want to take that risk,” wika ni Jaques Wagner, ang chief of staff ni President Dilma Rousseff.

“I understand that no one needs to be afraid if you are not pregnant,” dagdag pa ng opisyal.

Unang lumitaw ang Zika virus sa Uganda noong 1947 na hindi gaanong pinansin at tumaas lamang ang kaso nito sa Latin America noong 2015.
