GT-Metro Foundation joins Pasig River clean up

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - In support of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission’s initiatives to clean the Pasig River’s tributaries, GT-Metro Foundation (GTMF) formalized its assistance in the restoration of Estero de Concordia in Paco, Manila through a Memorandum of Agreement with ABS-CBN Foundation.

GTMF’s assistance, worth more than P2 million, is intended for the purchase and installation of two island reactors near Peñafrancia Bridge. The reactors use a 20-year Scottish technology that can effectively remove water pollutants such as iron and hydrogen sulfide, thereby improving water odor and quality in the estero.

GTMF executive director Aniceto Sobrepeña views the foundation’s support to the rehabilitation of Estero de Concordia as an opportunity to realize its sustainable development advocacy.

“We endeavor to extend the Ty family’s commitment to build homes that enhance and enrich the Filipino family’s living experience to adjoining communities,” he said.

Last month, GTMF led the Metrobank Group in the Run for Pasig River at the Quezon City Memorial Circle, rallying 1,000 runners from the bank and its subsidiaries together with partners from the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

In 2010, GTMF’s partner foundation, the Metrobank Foundation, donated P5 million for the purchase of island reactors for Estero de Paco, a tributary of the Pasig River being connected by Estero de Concordia to Estero de Pandacan.
