Vicky's memories in watercolor

THE PEPPER MILL - Pepper Teehankee -

Vicky Zubiri exhibited 45 of her watercolors at The Gallery of The Peninsula Manila. The very well attended exhibit disappointed quite a number of people since they wanted to buy some pieces and the paintings were practically sold out! Vicky only agreed to showcase and sell these watercolors because of charity. So those frustrated buyers including this writer had to settle buying a box of beautiful blank note cards with 12 of Vicky’s paintings on them!

Her various watercolors were inspired by her trips to Italy, France, China, Croatia, Botswana, Vietnam, England, Greece, the US and the Philippines.

Others seen at the event were Marge Tambunting, Sitoy Lopez, Mikey and Lizette Cojuangco, Alex Loinaz, Alvaro Pertierra, Tobey Cabalfin, Maurice Arcache, Alex Van Hagen, Girlie Dayrit, Stephanie and Joe Zubiri.

A generous portion of the proceeds was given to San Nepomuceno School Assumption Malibay and Missionaries of Charity.

Let’s drink to that!

Mandarin Oriental Manila’s Oktoberfest gets bigger each year! Jointly organized with the German Club of Manila, it was held over two nights of non-stop beer drinking and feasting on German specialties, with the dance-inducing music of the Gunther Friedmann band that flew in from Munich.

This year, there was also an Oktoberfest during the day specially for families. The buffet tables groaned with assorted Bavarian sausages, starters and salads, sauerbraten, leberkaas, spit hendl, roast pork knuckle, to mention some of the dishes that guests kept going back for.

The event received support from Lufthansa German Airlines, Swiss International Airlines, Lufthansa Technik, San Miguel, Lifestyle Network, The Philippine Star, NBC Tent, LR Health and Beauty Systems, Management Society Asia, M.Y. Hans Christian Andersen, Puma, Bosch, Fritz & Macziol. Roundtrip business class tickets to Munich on Lufthansa and Swiss Airlines topped the list of attractive raffle prizes that lucky winners took home.

A day of golf for UNICEF

HSBC hosted an exclusive golf clinic with renowned PGA golfer Thongchai Jaidee to support youth and education in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Regional Youth and Education Programme.

Held at the Manila Polo Club, the golf clinic allowed some of HSBC’s most valued customers and friends to get some personalized tips and hands-on training from one of Asia’s best golfers. Jaidee is the first Thai player to win a tournament on the European Tour and is also the first player in Asian Tour history to surpass $2 million in career earnings.

Incorporating a unique philanthropic twist into the event, the bank also held “Nearest the Pin” competitions for each of the five sessions. A total of $5,000 was raised by HSBC for UNICEF.
