Dinner for the Bajas

It was an intimate dinner that Letty Syquia and Nellie Bengzon recently tendered for their dear friends Lauro Baja Jr., the permanent representative of the Philippines to the United Nations, and his wife Norma. The highly-esteemed diplomat was recently honored as one of the 2005 Top Outstanding Filipinos for Bilateral and Multilateral Diplomacy. The memorable gathering was held at Letty’s elegant residence in North Forbes Park. Old and new members of the diplomatic corps graced the occasion, as well as some friends in the government and the private sector.

Premier golfing

There was a slight drizzle when HSBC CEO Warner Manning, National Treasurer Omar Cruz, Benguet Corp. CEO Philip Romualdez and Aboitiz COO Montxu Aboitiz teed off at the Tagaytay Higlands to signal the start of the 2005 HSBC Invitational Golf Tournament. Amid the rains HSBC’s guests, CEOs, CFOs and premier customers enjoyed a fantastic round of golf which was later capped by a sumptuous Chinese buffet at China Palace. Those who made fantastic marks were: Ladies Division champion Marie Claire Ong, Men’s Gold Division champion Danilo Alcoseba, Silver Division champion Michael Tom Pesengco and Bronze Division champion Vincent Tanchuling.

The HSBC Invitational tourney was a prelude to one of the much-sought golfing events in Asia, the HSBC Champions tourney held in Shanghai. As a fitting incentive to HSBC premier customers, they were flown to Shanghai to witness the event participated by no less than Tiger Woods, and delighted with luxurious accommodations at the Four Seasons.

A tribute to a great man

The elegant and cozy Taipan room of the Tower Club, Makati’s premier and inimitable club, was the setting for a dinner hosted by the Philippine Cancer Society Board of Directors to honor the late PCS director Adrian Ocampo. Also honored were the members of the Best Dressed Women committee, which Adrian helped to organize as a major fundraising event for the society. PCS chairman Dr. Roberto Paterno led everyone in showing gratitude for the committee’s hard work, that resulted in the event’s success.
