US holds annual education fair

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The United States government will host its annual education fair in Mandaluyong and Cebu this week to provide Filipino students with information on higher education institutions in the US.

The EducationUSA Fair, which will feature more than 20 US colleges and universities, will be held at Podium Hall in Ortigas Center today and at Radisson Blu Hotel in Cebu City tomorrow.

“The fair provides an opportunity for students, parents, and school administrators to interact with admissions officers from a variety of US colleges and universities to learn about academic programs and opportunities,” the US embassy in Manila said in a statement.

“Participants can also learn about the US college application processes, scholarship and financial aid options, and steps to apply for a student visa,” it added.

EducationUSA provides free advising services to prospective international students in more than 170 countries and offers students resources and tools to help navigate the steps to studying in the US, according to the embassy.

“There are more than 4,700 accredited higher education institutions in the United States, and an EducationUSA adviser can help students narrow their options, define their priorities and plan their college careers,” it said.

“EducationUSA does not offer scholarships, but can assist students in identifying scholarship and financial assistance opportunities,” it added.

The fair is free and open to the public.
