What does it mean to manage your nursing career today?

-

MANILA, Philippines - We’ve all heard about the oversupply of nurses. Yet according to DOLE nursing remains to be the most popular degree program during the recent three-year period. During school years 2006-2009 approximately 600,000 students were enrolled each year in nursing courses; the number that graduated in those same years ranged from 73,000 in 2007 to 87,000 in 2009. In the last two years the passing percentage has dropped to around 35 percent. Yet many of them are painfully unaware of the realities of preparing for a professional nursing career overseas – or even in the Philippines.

The good news is that assessment tools and a skilled career coach will be available for all nurses, through Profiles Asia Pacific, at the iNaRS International Nursing Registration Summit on May 21, organized by International Education Specialists, and to be held at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Conference Center in Makati.

Headed up by Malcolm and Jocelyn Pick, Profiles Asia Pacific has considerable experience in the Philippines. Recently they completed a nationwide career assessment of young people for TESDA and are making available FREE OF CHARGE, Nursing Career Management Assessment tools and reports for all the nurses attending the INaRS Summit.

Underscoring the need for the right students attending the right school of nursing will be Chairperson Dr. Patricia Licuanan of the Commission of Higher Education, who will speak at the iNaRS Conference on May 20 to the deans and administrators of the assembled schools of nursing.

For deans and administrators, online registration may be done at www.inter-ed.com. Attendance, endorsed by CHED, is free.

For nurses attending the iNaRS Exhibit on May 21st, there are many attractions. At this Free of Charge event, as well as the Profiles Asia Pacific Assessment Tests, will be a range of universities from Australia, Canada, NZ, the UK and the USA displaying a range of courses that will lead students to overseas nursing registration and in several of the countries, onto career pathways and even residency. Full up-to-date material and information from the visa sections of the respective embassies will be given to all nurses, as will manuals giving them full details of the institutions and courses. One-on-one interviews will be scheduled with universities such as Curtin University (Perth, WA), Deakin University (Melbourne, Vic), Royal Canadian Institute of Technology (Vancouver, BC), Stevens-Henager College (Utah, USA), Anglia Ruskin University (Cambridge, UK), Glyndwr University (Wrexham, UK), Glamorgan University (Cardiff, UK), Coventry University (Coventry, UK) and the other participating overseas institutions. Nurses should register on-line at www.inter-ed.com and select their preferred time slot and the country/institution of choice. It is through the generous support of media partner The Philippines STAR; technology partner PowerMac; and career assessment partner Profiles Asia Pacific, that Inter-Ed is able to organize the iNaRS International Nursing Registration Summit on May 20 and 21 at the AIM Conference Center free of charge for attendees. Special inquiries for groups may be directed to Inter-Ed on 8191001 or text 0918-9041282.
