New DLSU president, chancellor take oath before Chief Justice

- Rainier Allan Ronda -

MANILA, Philippines - La Sallian Brothers Narciso Erguiza and Ricardo Laguda, FSC, formally assumed their posts as president, and chancellor, respectively, of the De La Salle University (DLSU) system in installation and investiture ceremonies at the DLSU-Taft campus in Manila last Tuesday.

Erguiza and Laguda’s assumption of their top posts came after their election by the 15-man DLSU board of trustees, chaired by former Asian Institute of Management (AIM) president Dr. Francis Estrada. The two are taking over the posts vacated by Education Secretary Br. Armin Luistro.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona administered the oath of offices of Erguiza and Laguda. Erguiza, with his installation last Tuesday, became the 21st president of De La Salle University.

Erguiza received his Master of Arts in English Education degree in 1974 and his Doctor of Education, major in Educational Management degree in 1996, also from DLSU. At present, he concurrently serves as president of De La Salle Araneta University and De La Salle Canlubang.

Laguda, for his part, is the third De La Salle University chancellor, after the post was created in 2007.

Br. Ricky, as Laguda is fondly known in DLSU, remained at DLSU for his MA Religious Education, which he finished in 2000, and for his PhD Executive Program in Educational Leadership and Management, which he completed in 2007. Currently, he takes the lead in Project Beyond 100, a multi-sectoral initiative that aims to identify the institution’s thrusts and strategic targets beyond its centennial.
