Good chances before December

READERS VIEWS - The Freeman

The vaccine that would stop the spread of the COVID-19 disease will soon be released hopefully this December. Surely many of us hope that the end of this year will also be the end of the malady brought by this pandemic. But we’ve just turned our calendar to August. There are three to four months to go before we’ll get into that vision of clear sunlight of our victory.

Starting when the national government and the LGU of different provinces see the need to slowly reopen and run our economy again, many of us, homeliners, no longer feel the dreadful tense of the pandemic. From counting the number of positive cases everyday through news and social media, we are now counting our chances to earn more income and get rid of hoping for a government's financial support.

However, many of our friends out there still cannot dare to take risks to go to work or business and just stay in the security of their homes. It is true that our life and health today are our only foundation to live for tomorrow. As a friend of mine would remind me of Ratan Tata, “2020 is the year to survive, not make profits.” However, the funny thing about the spread of this virus is that no matter how wise we try to hide in our cave with the observance of safety measures, and a ton of gasoline and alcohol no wonder time may come that the virus would linger in our doorstep carried by a delivery man or by a stray animal. So which is which? To survive by hiding or to survive by taking risks? Well, we can do both by schedule and by our own discretion.

As we start the year 2020, we’re excited to chase our dreams for our family and for ourselves and wish to make them a reality before this year ends or soon. Now, many would say that the pandemic has been delaying them or stealing them away from our capability to work on.

But for some, we’ll lose those dreams unless we see our own drive to go on through different opportunities we make or that may come our way. They could be in the form of free or affordable webinars on life coaching, career and business training, financial literacy, health investment, and many more. The enlightenment we see today or whatever psychological or spiritual thing we gain during this pandemic will surely make us one step or one person closer to our dreams. Who or what good we have become now is our only asset soon as we all celebrate Christmas and the first morning of a COVID-free nation.

Therefore, let us dream and aim for more success even in this state of crisis. Success in the family relationships, our relationship with God, and ourselves, for example, are essentials before the vaccine. -Edmer John Caballes
