More predictions of calamities in the year 2013

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Bobit S. Avila - The Freeman

It’s the New Year 2013 and it is time to reflect on the events that we talked about exactly a year ago. As in the previous year, a great majority of the Filipino people always express their high hopes for the coming New Year. Well, now is a good time to ask… are they better off in the Year 2012 than in the previous Year 2011? Perhaps for the rich ones, but the poor remain poor.

Frankly speaking, I seriously doubt it because the recent surveys showed a higher figure of Filipinos who are extremely hopeful that life would be better in the Year 2013. We always hope for the best every New Year, but somehow we Filipinos always end up disappointed because we have this penchant of not being able to solve even our minutest problem. So what can we expect for the Year 2013? I guess more of the same problems we face every single day, year in and year out.

If you recall, it was December 2011 when Typhoon Sendong struck Cagayan de Oro, Iligan and Dumaguete City… where even today, many of the evacuees are still staying in evacuation centers. Then last month, almost a year after Typhoon Sendong struck Northern Mindanao, Typhoon Pablo struck the southern part of Mindanao, especially along the Compostela Valley area. Unfortunately the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) made an early announcement that they were prepared to handle Typhoon Pablo without realizing that more than a thousand people already perished in that natural disaster. Today the number of deaths has topped over 2,000. Worst of all, the national government just seems too far away to help the beleaguered victims.

What made Typhoon Pablo more disastrous was that, it blew away our very stable banana industry, one of the country’s top agricultural export businesses, although pundits were saying that the banana industry was considered nearly “clinically dead” when the Aquino Regime broke ties with the People’s Republic of China because of our territorial dispute in the Scarborough Shoal. So you can say that Typhoon Pablo did a coup de grace on our banana industry. Hmmm, thinking about our still unresolved troubles with China makes us believe that we shall see more of this in the Year 2013.

If at all, we have something to thank God for the Year 2012, it is that we all survived that controversial Mayan prediction that the End of Times would happen in December 21, 2012. Hmmm… but would you believe that certain scientists are now saying that the Mayan calculations were off by a year? After all, their predictions were made thousands of years ago… so it is possible that the Mayan’s calculation was slightly off? Hmmm they’re off by a year huh? That means… will shall be seeing another bunch of end of times prediction in the Year 2013? Come on! Give us a break!

But wait! There’s this Indian scientist named Vasudev Moolrajani who came up with his own research and announced that the Year 2013 would be a very dangerous year, although it won’t be the end of the world. So if this fellow is to be believed, we can expect more earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and super typhoons for the Year 2013. That’s better than the end of times.

Just in case you already forgot, this coming February 6th will be the first anniversary of that 6.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Guihulgan in the southern coast of Negros Oriental and even here in Cebu City. If you recall… so many people panicked… it was so embarrassing. Some prank in the downtown area shouted, “tsunami!” and a multitude of people began running towards the uptown areas of Cebu City.

This happened not just in downtown Cebu City, but also in many parts of Mandaue. In Lahug area, which is already many feet above sea level, a multitude of people started running up towards the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel. Why? Because of sheer ignorance. For sure, these people saw footages of the Japanese Tsunami in Fukushima a year earlier and it stuck in their minds. Malacañang Palace was no help either, when they issued a tsunami warning a full hour after the earthquake already shook Cebu, which only further aggravated the situation.

So what other calamities will we see in the Year 2013? Apparently the Indian scientist Vasudev Moolrajani also announced that a very strong solar storm is likely to happen in the Year 2013. He predicted for this year saying, “I also confirm that the year 2013 will commence along with sever earthquake, typhoon, flood, fire, volcano burst in between dates from Feb. 10,2013 to March 25, 2013 and in between April 22, 2013 to May 25, 2013.”

There you go, just like the Mayan Long Calendar count, we now have specific dates as predicted by this Indian scientist when natural disasters would occur. This is certainly something to look forward in order to prepare ourselves if ever it happens here in Cebu. Let’s pray to God for our safety.
