Angat Dam nearing critical level
MALOLOS, Bulacan, Philippines — The water level in Angat Dam in this province was only 3.45 meters above its critical level of 160 meters as of yesterday.
Records from the provincial disaster risk reduction and management office showed that at 11 a.m., the elevation had decreased to 163.45 meters from 163.57 at 6 a.m.
This is 16.55 meters below Angat’s minimum operating level of 180, and 48.55 below its normal high water level of 212 meters.
In 2019, the dam breached its critical level of 160 meters, resulting in rotational water service interruptions in Metro Manila.
Angat’s water is reserved for Metro Manila households, hydropower generation for the Luzon grid and for irrigation supply of farmlands in Bulacan and some parts of Pampanga.
The scheduled irrigation supply for 25,000 hectares of rice farms in Bulacan and Pampanga has been stopped.
Angat supplies more than 90 percent of Metro Manila’s potable water.
