MANILA, Philippines — Justice Secretary Crispin Remulla has ensured a fair and swift handling of the rape and attempted rape complaints filed by two personnel of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) against their superior who is a two-star general.

The complaints have been filed before the Office of the City Prosecutors in Lipa, Batangas.

Remulla on Thursday said the Department of Justice (DOJ) would look into the complaints with fairness.

Nico Robert Martin, counsel for the complainants, confirmed that charges were filed even as the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has subjected the official to an internal investigation.

AFP public affairs office chief Col. Xerxes Trinidad said the official was placed under restrictive custody after initial investigation found prima facie evidence to recommend court martial proceedings against the defendant.

Trinidad said that after a review of the result of the pre-trial investigation, AFP chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. may order the conduct of court martial proceedings.
