EDSA busway to undergo P253 million rehab

MANILA, Philippines — Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon is initiating the rehabilitation of the EDSA busway, allocating P253 million for the first phase of the project.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) yesterday issued the invitation to bid for the design and build contract for the first leg of the rehabilitation of busway stations.
The DOTr will spend P252.8 million for the upgrade of four bus stops, Dizon said.
A pre-bid conference is set on May 7.
Based on the conceptual plan, the first segment of the rehabilitation covers four stations: Monumento, Bagong Barrio, North Avenue and Guadalupe.
The DOTr prioritized these stops based on the availability of manlift and ridership data.
To date, the EDSA Carousel has 23 bus stops between Monumento in Caloocan and the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange.
Based on the DOTr’s data, the EDSA busway serves more than 177,000 people daily, making it one of the busiest transport modes in Metro Manila.
