Teen hit by coconut tree felled by wind dies from injuries in Zamboanga del Sur

COTABATO CITY — A 13-year-old boy died after a coconut tree felled by strong wind pinned him down while biking in a farm in Barangay Romarate in Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur on Tuesday.

In a report on Wednesday, the Aurora Municipal Police Station said that the Grade 7 student Dexcer Alimpos Quindao was declared dead on arrival by physicians in a hospital where barangay emergency responders brought him after they had removed that coconut tree on top of his upper torso using farm tools.

Quindao’s parents, Danilo and Leonora, told reporters and policemen dispatched to investigate the incident that he was riding his bicycle when strong winds pummeled their barangay, felled orchard and coconut trees and damaged the roofs of houses made only of semi-permanent materials.

“He was riding his bike when a coconut tree fell on him,” Quindao’s father said.

The local government unit of Aurora has reportedly promised to provide the family of Quindao with support needed for the teen's burial.
