MANILA, Philippines — Over 300,000 households in Davao region have been classified as poor, based on the results of the third Listahanan Project assessment conducted by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Peter Paul Villanueva, DSWD regional information technology officer, said that of the more than 900,000 households they assessed in the region, 333,513 were classified as poor.

The figure increased from 280,000 households that were recorded in the previous Listahanan 2.

Under the nationwide Listahanan 3, the DSWD classified 1.7 million people as poor. Of the figure, 876,883 are working age and 441,902 are unemployed.

Listahanan is an information management system of the government that aims to establish a database of poor households. It serves as a basis for the DSWD in identifying beneficiaries of its social protection programs and services.

The largest number of people classified as poor in Davao region is concentrated in Davao Occidental comprising 58.44 percent of the total number of the assessed households.

Davao Oriental followed with 55.96 percent while Davao de Oro and Davao del Sur recorded 43.05 and 30.87 percent, respectively.

Davao del Norte ranked fifth with 29.79 percent while Davao City is last on the list with 23.26 percent.
