Negros massacre suspects identified

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Authorities have reportedly identified the suspects in the murder of four members of a family in a rebel-infested area in Himamaylan, Negros Occidental last week, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said yesterday.

Lacson said he was still waiting for the final report from the police, particularly the number of the suspects and the possible motive behind the killing of farmer Rolly Fausto, his wife Imelda and their two minor sons in Sitio Kangkiling, Barangay Buenavista on June 14.

Responding police officers recovered 50 bullet shells for an assault rifle from the scene of the incident.

The victims were buried on Sunday in a public cemetery in nearby Barangay Aguisan.

Himamaylan Mayor Raymund Tongson said witnesses have come forward to help in the investigation.

Aside from the police, probers from the Commission on Human Rights based in Negros Occidental are investigating the incident.
