Workers gear up for Labor Day protests
MANILA, Philippines — Groups will mobilize at least 10,000 workers for Labor Day protests on Monday.
All Philippine Trade Unions (APTU) said the workers would march from España Boulevard to Mendiola in Manila to air their demands to the government.
The APTU is a coalition of workers’ groups such as the Nagkaisa Labor Coalition, Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU), Trade Union Congress of the Philippines and Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino.
“Workers will march on May 1 to press for Malacañang’s position on our demands for an inclusive roadmap to achieve decent work, an immediate action to the clamor for wage increase and an end to impunity, among other matters,” KMU chairman Elmer Labor said in a statement.
Apart from Manila, protest actions are also set in other parts of the country. – Ghio Ong
