DPWH completes Biliran flood control structure

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently completed the construction of a flood control structure that will protect rice fields and residential communities in the upstream portion of Bagongbong River in Almeria, Biliran.

DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said the project involves the construction of a levee with reinforced concrete and 414 meters long.

“This project will help ensure the safety of locals and their livelihood as well as motorists during rainy season,” he said.

The P24.5-million flood control project strengthened the ground along the riverbank to prevent soil erosion, Bonoan added.
