MANILA, Philippines — The municipal government of Silang in Cavite has vowed to help resolve issues on right-of-way involving the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (Calax) project of the MPCALA Holdings Inc. (MHI)

The completion of the project is crucial to the development of Silang, particularly toward achieving its cityhood status by 2025.

Silang Mayor Kevin Anarna has urged the Department of Public Works and Highways as well as the private landowners to address the issue and speed up the completion of the Calax.

“We are willing to help the MHI and the government fast-track the opening of the Calax Silang Interchange. We are planning to set up a meeting with the owner of the land to discuss the right-of-way issue,” Anarna said in a statement.

To date, 64 percent of the Calax Silang Interchange subsection has been completed.

One critical aspect in the completion of the interchange is the undelivered right-of-way of about 450 meters of a property owned by a private corporation.

Anarna said they toured the owner of the property around the town’s tourist spots to show him what the local government is losing due to the delay in the completion of the Calax subsection.

“Once the Calax Interchange is completed, we can start the construction of inner roads to make these spots accessible to tourists and investors,” Anarna said. “This fifth part of the eight-segment, 45-kilometer expressway is 3.9 km long, with a two-lane expressway from Silang East Interchange to Aguinaldo Highway.”

Once completed, the project will serve more motorists, particularly the residents of Silang who will enjoy reduced travel time and increased livelihood opportunities.
