MANILA, Philippines — Eighteen local government programs have been named as finalists in the Galing Pook awards.

Among these are the programs of Alcala, Cagayan; Bacoor City; Basilan; Biñan, Laguna; Cagayan de Oro; Barangay Cayabu in Tanay, Rizal; Davao City; Goa, Camarines Sur; Barangay Hayanggabon in Claver, Surigao del Norte; Iloilo City, and Itbayat, Batanes.

The other finalists are Libertad, Antique; Paglat, Maguindanao; Palayan, Nueva Ecija; Piddig, Ilocos Norte, and Pulilan, Bulacan. Two local government programs of Bataan also made it to the list.

”With the challenges brought by the pandemic, climate change and poverty, hopefully, these promising programs would serve as models and inspiration for other LGUs (local government units),” Georgina Yang, Galing Pook Foundation executive director, said.

The Galing Pook awards was launched in October 1993 to search for excellent and innovative local government programs.
