MANILA, Philippines — Thirty students and teachers at the Rizal High School in Pasig City received free bicycles and helmets as part of the Department of Education (DepEd)’s observance of World Car-Free Day yesterday.

Twenty students from grade seven to senior high school and 10 teachers received the bicycles during a ceremony hosted by the Move As One Coalition yesterday afternoon.

Rowena Dimagiba, a teacher at Rizal High School, said she belongs to the poorest of the poor who mostly walk to school.

“Hinanap namin ‘yung (We looked for the) best recipients,” she said in an interview clip over online news site BRABO News Pasig.

The teachers who received the bicycles were also found to be walking or taking public transport to school.
