Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Three villagers were killed and three others were wounded in a gun attack in Sumisip, Basilan before dawn yesterday.

Police identified two of the fatalities as Majalil Taalil, 60, and Maldiya Baakal.

Reports received by Brig. Gen. John Guyguyon, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao police director, showed that the victims were in their house when unidentified men arrived and opened fire.

Local authorities are looking at rido or clan war as the motive for the killing.

Also in Basilan, former barangay councilman Hadji Jimmy Talamun of Lumutun in Lamitan City was gunned down.

Talamun was on his motorcycle on his way to the barangay hall when he was shot.

Meanwhile, police said Marvin Tejada and Edison Dignos were gunned down by motorcycle-riding men in Barangay Palahanan 2 in San Juan, Batangas and Barangay Pugon in San Francisco, Quezon, respectively, on Wednesday.

Investigations into the killings are ongoing. – John Unson, Ed Amoroso
