7 fatalities in UP barangay fire identified

MANILA, Philippines — Police have identified seven of the eight people who perished in a fire that broke out in a shantytown in Barangay UP Campus in Quezon City on Monday.

A report from the Anonas police station named the victims as Alejandro Pabalete, Pilar Pabalete, Alicia Ran, Boy Caingat, Abby Lagonoy, Maricar Lagonoy and Greg Gallamos.

Another fatality remains unidentified.

The victims died after they were trapped in their homes by the fire, which left at least 250 families homeless.

Arson probers from the Bureau of Fire Protection said three of the fatalities were minors aged three to 10.

Six were found in a house while the other two were recovered in another shanty.

Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the blaze.
