MNLF chairman named BARMM labor minister

John Unson - The Philippine Star

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — The head of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) is the new labor minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The appointment of MNLF central committee chairman Muslimin Sema, which was signed by BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim, was effective on March 8.

Sema told reporters yesterday that he accepted the post, which he described as a “springboard” in furthering peace and sustainable development in the BARMM.

“It’s another way forward. A big challenge,” Sema, who served as mayor of this city for three terms, said.

Sema replaced his nephew Romeo, who was appointed BARMM labor minister in June 2019 .

Romeo, who is vice chairman for political affairs of the MNLF, shall remain as a member of the Bangsamoro interim parliament.

North Cotabato Vice Gov. Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza welcomed the appointment of the top MNLF official to help manage the regional government.

“The MILF (Moro Islamic Liberation Front), whose chairman is chief minister of BARMM, is true to its commitment that there shall be inclusivity in its peace and socio-economic initiatives for the autonomous region,” Mendoza said.
