Abu bandit held in Zamboanga raid; yields improvised bomb

MANILA, Philippines — A suspected Abu Sayyaf bandit was arrested in Zamboanga City on Wednesday.

Agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group apprehended Tony Asmun, 57, during a raid at his house in Barangay Kasanyangan at around 7:20 p.m., CIDG director Maj. Gen. Albert Ignatius Ferro said yesterday..

Ferro said police found an improvised explosive device (IED) in a sack of charcoal at Asmun’s residence.

“Investigation revealed that the IED came from another Abu Sayyaf member,” Ferro said.

He said the suspect is being held on charges of illegal possession of explosives.
