Marikina grants tax relief to sari-sari store, eatery owners
MANILA, Philippines — The Marikina City government has granted a 100-percent tax relief to owners of sari-sari stores and carinderia or eatery businesses next year to give them respite from financial losses they incurred due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mayor Marcelino Teodoro on Monday signed Ordinance No. 103, which exempts sari-sari store and carinderia owners from paying taxes, business permit fees and other local regulatory fees and charges from Jan. 1, 2022 to Dec. 31, 2022.
Covered by the tax exemption are sari-sari stores and eateries with a start-up capital of not more than P10,000 or an annual gross income of P180,000 or less.
The local government said similar business establishments with a start-up capital of more than P10,000 and those selling cigarettes or liquor are not qualified for the tax relief.
