DILG backs PNP’s e-sumbong system
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has lauded the Philippine National Police’s new online complaint system that aims to go after rogue PNP members.
DILG Secretary Eduardo Año said the PNP’s “Sumbong mo, aksyon ko” program allows citizens to submit complaints against police officers through text, social media, e-mail or Quick Response codes.
Año said the program would boost the reporting of crimes and violations committed by PNP personnel.
“We support the initiatives taken by PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar to effect the change we want to see in the police organization. Through the online complaint system, mas mapapabilis ang aksyon sa krimen at sumbong mula sa publiko habang nililinis ang hanay ng ating mga kapulisan,” Año said in a statement.
The DILG chief said citizens can play a vital role in crime prevention and help the PNP get rid of scalawags.
Año asked the public to only report legitimate complaints, adding that pranks would be acted upon by the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group.
