Edith Regalado - The Philippine Star

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Hundreds of residents fled from their homes as flashfloods hit a large portion of Digos City in Davao del Sur on Sunday night.

The floods, which occurred following a heavy downpour, submerged several houses and other structure in the villages of Aplaya, Cogon, Dawis, Igpit, Sinawilan, Tres de Mayo and other portions of the city.

Emergency rescue responders were dispatched to affected areas to transport stranded residents to safety.

Residents were brought to separate gymnasiums, which were turned into temporary shelters.

Traffic was heavy in the nearby town of Hagonoy as floodwaters submerged a portion of the Balutakay Bridge.

No casualties were reported from the incident.
