John Unson - The Philippine Star

MAGUINDANAO, Philippines — Suspected members of the Dawlah Islamiya or the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) shot dead a soldier on Monday.

S/Sgt. Bien Mendoza of the 61st  Reconnaissance Company of the 6th Infantry Division was on his motorcyle on his way to Camp Siongco when he was attacked along the highway in Simuay area in Sultan Kudarat town.

Mendoza went home to Pigcawayan on Saturday on a weekend pass.

At least 36 off-duty soldiers were killed by BIFF men in the past past four years.
