4 kilos of Chinese medicine seized at NAIA

Rudy Santos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Four kilos of Chinese medicines, misdeclared as plastic boxes, were confiscated from a courier firm’s warehouse at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Thursday night.

The medicines, which arrived at the Air Cargo warehouse from Taiwan earlier this week, were consigned to a Filipino from Tondo, Manila.

The medicines are not covered by a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance.

Mimel Talusan, Bureau of Customs district collector at NAIA, said a total of 2.2 kilos of misdeclared Chinese medicines intended for three consignees were intercepted at the NAIA last April 27.

This is another scheme to get around the required license to operate and certificate of product registration from the FDA on the importation of medicines, Talusan said.
