Magnitude 6 quake jolts Batanes
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 6 earthquake shook Batanes yesterday.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake, which occurred at around 12:44 a.m., struck 37 kilometers northeast of Basco.
The temblor was felt at Intensity 4, which is classified as moderately strong, in Basco and Itbayat. It was felt at Intensity 3 in Tuguegarao City in Cagayan and Luna, Apayao.
Instrumental Intensity 2 was recorded in Laoag City and Pasuquin in Ilocos Norte and Intensity 1 in Vigan, Ilocos Sur.
In Davao Occidental, a magnitude 5 quake struck 141 kilometers southeast of Jose Abad Santos at around 2:45 a.m.
Intensity 2 shaking was felt in Kiamba, Alabel and Malungon in Sarangani.
No damage or injury was reported from the quakes, but Phivolcs warned the public of aftershocks.
