Slain vice mayor’s wife posts bail in libel case
MANILA, Philippines — The wife of slain Batuan, Masbate vice mayor Charlie Yuson III posted bail yesterday in connection with the libel case filed against her by Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO)board member Sandra Cam.
Lalaine Yuson posted P30,000 bail before the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 49, which issued a warrant for her arrest on Feb. 18.
The court set the arraignment on May 12.
Cam accused the widow of making libelous comments when she told a television reporter that the PCSO official masterminded the killing of Yuson in Sampaloc, Manila on Oct. 10.
Cam alleged that Yuson had an ax to grind against her because she had her removed as election officer in Batuan.
Cam and Yuson are political rivals. Cam’s son Marco Martin lost to Yuson’s son Charmax Jan for Batuan mayor in the last elections.
The National Bureau of Investigation has filed charges of murder and frustrated murder against Cam before the Department of Justice.
Cam has denied the allegations against her.
