MANILA, Philippines — Leyte Mayor-elect Remedio Veloso squeaked past his opponent incumbent Mayor Susan Ang in a razor close race, with Veloso garnering only one vote more than Ang.

Veloso, who ran under the United Nationalist Alliance, bested PDP-Laban candidate Ang with 8,829 votes.

Reelectionist Ang fell short after garnering 8,828 votes to her name.

Days before the elections, Ang's camp was caught in the crossfire of violence as Leyte town administrator Levi Mabini was shot dead in the incumbent mayor's home.
