MMDA to apprehend speed limit violators on EDSA, major roads
MANILA, Philippines — Before the month ends, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will start apprehending motorists who will go beyond the 60 kilometer- per-hour (kph) speed limit on EDSA and other major roads in the metropolis, an official said yesterday.
MMDA Regulation No.19-001 was published yesterday, which means the agency will start implementing the new rule in two weeks, said traffic czar Bong Nebrija.
Offenders will be fined P1,000, according to the resolution, which attributes vehicular accidents to speeding
The regulation sets a 60-kph speed. limit on circumferential roads such as Recto Avenue, Quirino Avenue, Araneta Avenue, EDSA, C.P. Garcia Avenue and Southeast Metro Manila Expressway.
The same speed limit will also be observed on radial roads such as Roxas Boulevard, Taft Avenue, South Luzon Expressway, Shaw Boulevard, Ortigas Avenue, Magsaysay Boulevard/Aurora Boulevard and Quezon/Commonwealth Avenue.
A 60-kph speed limit will also be enforced on A. Bonifacio Avenue, Rizal Avenue and Del Pan/Marcos Highway/McArthur Highway, the MMDA said in its resolution.
