Otis Bridge to reopen on Dec. 15, 2018

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — More than six months after it was reconstructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the 50-year-old Otis Bridge in Paco, Manila will reopen on Dec. 15, an official said yesterday.

Bong Nebrija, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority supervising operations officer, said the rerouting schemes implemented during the bridge’s closure will be lifted as the DPWH’s road repairs are nearly done.

Otis Bridge, one of the bridges leading to Malacañang, was closed to vehicles in June after the DPWH declared it unsafe for motorists due to its progressive collapse.

With the reopening of the bridge, traffic in the area will start to normalize since private vehicles and trucks will no longer be rerouted except in areas connecting to Quirino Avenue Bridge, Nebrija said.

Trucks can start using the Otis Bridge as part of the government’s effort to address traffic problems during the holiday season, he added.  – Robertzon Ramirez
