ILOILO CITY  , Philippines  —   A barangay official, also the sister of slain suspected drug lord Richard Prevendido, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in San Joaquin, Iloilo yesterday.

Police said Remia Gregori, reelected barangay captain of Bakhaw, Mandurriao, was killed along with her personal assistant Analee Antipatria.

City police chief Senior Supt. Marlon Tayaba said the victim’s husband Bonifacio Gregori was wounded in the attack.

Tayaba said five assailants in two Toyota Vios sedans arrived at the family-owned Crystal Beach Resort in Barangay Igcadlum and shot dead the two victims.

Tayaba said they are investigating the incident on suspicion that it was drug-related.

Remia won the barangay chairmanship of Bakhaw, which was earlier known as Iloilo City’s drug haven.

Her brother Richard was considered a national high-value target drug personality.

Remia was also reportedly involved in the illegal drug trade, along with her sons and daughters who have pending arrest warrants, police said.

Antipatria was suspected of involvement in the illegal drug trade as a courier, Tayaba said.

Remia, questioned during an Oplan Tokhang operation, denied any involvement in the illegal drug trade.

Her son Bonifacio Jr. is facing drug charges.

Her brother Richard and his son Jason were killed in a police operation on Sept. 1, 2017 at Landheights Subdivision in Barangay Balabago in Jaro, Iloilo City.
