MANILA, Philippines — Motorists and commuters should brace for monstrous traffic jams along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City as the Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7) construction goes into full swing, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said yesterday.

Jojo Garcia, acting general manager of the MMDA, appealed for public cooperation.

“The MMDA and local government units cannot do it alone. We need the people’s cooperation,” Garcia said in a press conference at the agency’s office in Makati.

On Monday night, motorists were stuck in heavy traffic along Commonwealth Avenue and nearby areas.

The project contractor started work on the elevated railway from Maharlika Highway to Commonwealth Avenue on Thursday.

Garcia said they received complaints from motorists about drivers of public utility vehicles who pick up and drop off passengers in areas that are not designated for “loading and unloading.”

He said they were planning to put up more barriers in the area to guide jeepney drivers and other motorists.

The Department of Public Works and Highways will conduct repairs of roads from Eugenio Lopez to Scout Borromeo in Quezon City from Friday night until Monday next week.
