Erap inaugurates renovated Quinta market
MANILA, Philippines - Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada inaugurated the newly reconstructed Quinta market in Quiapo, coinciding with his 80th birthday yesterday.
Built under a P150-million joint venture agreement with the private sector at no cost to the city government, the two-story market is equipped with wet and dry sections and stalls, free Wi-Fi, a food court, fast food restaurants, security cameras, toilets as well as parking areas.
“This is what we envisioned – a modern and convenient public market that is accessible by land and through the Pasig River,” the mayor said.
A fish port was put up in the area to acommodate fish traders from other cities.
Estrada said a ferry terminal would be established to make Quinta market more accessible to the public.
The renovation of the market was undertaken by Marketlife Management and Leasing Corp.
Last year, the city government rehabilitated public markets in Sampaloc, Sta. Ana, San Andres and Trabajo.
