MMDA deploys 500 enforcers to manage traffic during inauguration

The Philippine Star
MANILA, Philippines (Philippine News Agency) -- The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has deployed more than 500 traffic constables to help motorists who may be affected by security precautions for the inauguration of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President-elect Maria Leonor "Leni" Robredo on Thursday.

Lawyer Crisanto Saruca, MMDA Traffic Discipline Office said Wednesday that MMDA constables will be sent out across Metro Manila, especially along airport routes.

Although there will be no road closures, traffic may be affected by security convoys.

"Ito rin aalalay kay President Aquino going to Time Street in Quezon City. Mabilis lang yong convoy, walang affected masyado,” said Saruca.

Robredo and Duterte will hold separate inaugural ceremonies on Thursday. Both of them had opted to be sworn in where they will be holding office.

Duterte's inauguration will be held in Malacañang and will be attended by about 600 guests. His staff said that the ceremony would be held with simple fare — such as the president-elect's favorite maruya (banana fritters) — to be served.

Persons who are expected to attend the event include diplomats, incoming secretaries, government officials and Duterte’s family members.

Robredo took her oath at the Quezon City Executive House, formerly known as the Boracay Mansion, at around 9 a.m.

Saruca said 60 traffic constables will man the vicinity of the Quezon City Reception House in New Manila, where Robredo will hold office.
