Drug rehab center to rise in CAR

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, Philippines – The Cordillera Region will have its own drug rehabilitation center, which will be constructed next year.

The facility will be built within the compound of the Mountain Province General Hospital in the municipality of Bauko, according to Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency regional director Juvenal Azurin.

The proposal for the construction of the facility was backed by the Regional Peace and Order Council, which sought the help of the Department of Health (DOH).

Gaudencio Tiwing of the DOH said they are preparing the documents for the facility, adding that the bidding for the project will be held this year.

Among the provinces in the Cordilleras, Mountain Province has the lowest number of drug-affected villages with four. Apayao has 13; Benguet, Ifugao and Kalinga have 17; Baguio City, 32 and Abra, 37.
