Kin seek probe of Lanao vice mayor’s death

ILIGAN CITY, Philippines  – Relatives of the vice mayor of Maigo, Lanao del Norte have called for a probe by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) into the cause of his death.

Maigo police earlier said Elmer Ramos, whose body was found in his bedroom on Feb. 13, had committed suicide.

A sister of Ramos said they would ask the NBI to conduct a deeper investigation, noting that her brother tested negative for powder burns.

Maigo Mayor Rafael Rizalda also raised doubts that the gunshot wound in Ramos’ left temple was self-inflicted. He said he knew Ramos to be right-handed.
