Drunk man cuts off own penis
MAGUINDANAO, Philippines - An emotionally distraught 21-year-old Maguindanaon cut before dawn Monday his penis with a sharp machete, police said Tuesday.
Inspector Alonto Arobinto, chief of the Buluan municipal police, said the man, who was drunk at that time, was rushed by relatives to a hospital in nearby Koronadal City.
Arobinto declined to reveal, on the request of relatives, the identity of the patient, now undergoing medication.
Physician Nelson Joel Decolongon of the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital in Koronadal City told reporters they do not have the capability to reconnect the man’s severed sex organ.
Arobinto said relatives had told investigators the man arrived at their house drunk and, several hours later, started writhing in pain.
Members of his family immediately rushed him to the hospital when they noticed his groin bleeding.
“We still do not know if he was under the influence of drugs when he did it,” Arobinto said.
