2 Sinos charged over P7.5-M unpaid bills in Cagayan hotel

Raymund Catindig, Charlie Lagasca - The Philippine Star

TUGUEGARAO CITY , Philippines   â€“ Two Chinese women have been charged over P7.5 million in unpaid bills they allegedly incurred at a posh hotel-casino at the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority and Freeport in northern Santa Ana town last month.

Chief Inspector Romar Pacis, the town’s police chief, said the two Chinese nationals, Wu Xiulian and Yu Guiyun, both 48, are now facing charges of swindling before the Department of Justice here over their unsettled bills.

The two, however, are nowhere to be found since leaving their hotel room before dawn of June 18 without the knowledge of the management of the Eastern Hawaii Leisure Inc. where they stayed for more than two months.

According to Pacis, the two Chinese even surrendered their passports to the complainant, Chen Jin Dou, the guest service manager of Avia International Inc., as guarantee that they would pay their bills in the hotel.

The two reportedly incurred P7,505,380 for accommodations, food and casino services during their stay at the foreign consortium-owned hotel from April 4 to June 18.

Pacis said they believe that the two women are still in the country since their passports are still in the custody of the hotel management. The Chinese embassy in Manila, he said, has been informed about the incident.

“Perhaps, they have been doing the same modus operandi in other luxurious hotels,” he said.
