Parts of Quezon City experience hailstorm

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday said that some areas in Quezon City experienced hailstorm.

Weather Forecaster Chris Perez said that the hailstorm experience in some part of Quezon City is due effects of thunderstorms.

"Isolated case lang po ito and this can be experienced in a thunderstorm cloud or technically, in cumulonimbus clouds the hail storm is unpredictable. We can’t even predict the movement of clouds. A hailstorm can happen anytime,” Perez said.

He noted that localized thunderstorm or convection is easily formed, which brings isolated rainshowers.

Perez also said the agency is not yet ready to declare "summer" in the country since the four criteria have yet to be met despite the hot weather experience in Metro Manila and other parts of the country

Perez said the "summer" season commences when the amihan is no longer present; when a high-pressure area or anti-cyclone is present; temperatures are on the rise and the easterlies or warm air from the Pacific Ocean prevail.
