Cops mum on e-trike inventor's 'mysterious' death

- Dino Balabo -

MARILAO, Bulacan, Philippines  – Allan Aguilar, the inventor of the country’s first electric tricycle and a re-elected councilor of this town is dead.  He is 45 years old.

However, the cause of his death and the events surrounding it remain a mystery as family and friends decided to keep their silence for the meantime.

Even police officers here are mum on the incident that allegedly happened in Aguilar’s house in Barangay Lias here.

Some sources said Aguilar died of a gunshot wound, but this cannot be confirmed as of press time.

Sketchy reports said Aguilar was found in a pool of blood inside his house. No other details are available.

An engineer by profession, Aguilar is one of the founding members of the Marilao Rescue Assistance Group.

He was elected councilor in 2004 and was reelected in 2007 and last May for his third term.

In late 2008, Aguilar and his father Antonino launched the first electric tricycle (e-trike) in the country.

The e-trike caught the attention of Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. who was then serving as mayor of Quezon City. The said e-trike passed roadworthiness tests conducted by the Land Transportation Office but orange plates intended for it remain pending.
