ATO radar scopes need upgrading

-

Millions or perhaps even billions of pesos are spent every year for different government projects such as roads, housing and other infrastructure but the country’s aviation sector has degenerated over the years due to the government’s inability to modernize its long-range radar system resulting in slow service to users.

This surfaced last week after the Air Transportation Office (ATO) issued a Notice-to-Airmen (Notam) saying that the Tagaytay radar is under observation due to intermittent signal disruption.

The Notam is the latest information given by ATO since the radar has been reported to be decades old and had been operating on-and-off since last week.

The Tagaytay radar facility is under the Air Navigation System (ANS) whose chief is Inocencio Yncierto. The STAR tried to interview Yncierto but he was attending a meeting according to his staff.   – Rudy Santos
