Villar unveils Ramsar wetland marker

MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Cynthia Villar led the unveiling of the Ramsar marker for the Las Piñas-Parañaque Critical Habitat and Eco-tourism Area (LPPCHEA) yesterday morning to mark the Month of the Ocean and the International Day for Biological Diversity. 

In an interview, Villar said the LPPCHEA signage means it is one of the most important wetlands in the world and the sixth site in the country under the Ramsar Convention list of wetlands of international importance.

The LPPCHEA was included in the list in 2013 as it plays an important role in Metro Manila’s biodiversity as a coastal urban wetland and bird sanctuary.
