Calvento hurt in quarrel with driver

Ed Amoroso - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Columnist Tony Calvento was wounded after his driver reportedly tried to stab him in San Pedro City in this province on Saturday.

Calvento, 61, who writes for The STAR’s sister publication Pang Masa, was hurt when he grabbed the knife as Marcelo Marimon Jr., 31, attacked him.

Marimon fled after the incident that occurred at Calvento’s home in Chrysanthemum Village, Barangay San Vicente at past 6 p.m.

Police said Marimon was irked when Calvento’s house-help Nice Calim, 21, told him to go to the racetrack to place a bet. The order allegedly came from Calvento.

A quarrel broke out between Calvento and Marimon, who reportedly pulled out a knife and attacked his employer.
