1 dead, 2 injured as fires hit Manila

MANILA, Philippines – A 90-year-old man died and two others were injured when two separate fires broke out in Manila over the weekend.

Arson investigators said Valentin Cañales died when he was trapped in his burning apartment along Solis street in Tondo on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, two persons were hurt in a fire that struck a residential area on Bataan street, Balic-Balic, Sampaloc yesterday.

Authorities said the fire left at least 20 families homeless.

Arson probers have yet to determine the cause of the twin fires.
